Reverse Diabetes in a year (IHCAN news)
Almost half of the patients with Type II diabetes on a weight loss program were able to reverse their diabetes in a year, according to a one-year results from DiRECT (Diabetes Remission Clinical Trial). Almost 9 out of 10 people who lost 15 kg or more put their Type II diabetes into remission. This could save the NHS over £1.5 million an hour, which equates to over £25,000 being spent on diabetes every minute, and it's on the rise! This was done with a total diet placement with an 825-853 kcal per day diet 200 kcal/day meal replacement drinks for three-five. The liquid diet was then followed by 2 to 8 weeks of reintroducing food, along with nutritional education and cognitive behavioural therapy to help people stick with the new eating plan. The patients were given step counters and encouraged to achieve 15,000 steps per day during this phase. This is an incredible study which could stop diabetes reaching its estimated rise to 4 million by 2025 and over burdening our NHS further. Pass the news on.
