Tips to make beans more digestible
Beans are very nutritious, full of B vitamins and an absolute essential ingredient to add to your diet on a daily basis. However, a lot of my clients complain about the 'gaseous' aspect of eating beans, so here are a few tips on how to reduce that wind:
- Cook the beans with dulse. This is a seaweed that helps to reduce gasses.
- Eat slowly and mindfully. Ensure you chew the beans until they are a liquid and you can chew no more.
- Cook slowly. Cooking in a slow cooker over a long period of time can also reduce the production of gas.
- Consider drinking a tablespoon of apple cider vinegar 20 minutes before you eat.
Similarly papaya or pineapple will do the same trick.- Alternatively you could take a digestive enzyme.
